Tax adviser for entrepreneurs on their business and personal affairs
By providing creative yet pragmatic tax planning, Anthony helps owner-managers to minimise their immediate tax liabilities and plan effectively for the future.
He also guides entrepreneurs through the range of tax breaks available to investors, employees and themselves as shareholders.

Anthony provides advice about a wide range of tax issues, including:
- Buying and selling businesses
- Research and development tax reliefs for high-tech businesses
- Tax breaks available for investors in trading companies
- Corporate reconstructions
- Tax efficient employee incentives
- Cross-border transactions for multinational businesses
- Capital gains tax planning, with particular regard to the sale of the family home
- Property transactions, including stamp duty and capital allowances planning
Graduate in computing and maths
Anthony went to the Manchester Grammar School where he sat next to a certain future England cricket captain. He then qualified from Leeds University with a degree in Computing and Mathematics.
A ten year career at PriceWaterhouseCoopers followed. Anthony worked in their Manchester and London tax practices before joining Levy Gee, where he headed up their corporate tax offering in London.
After more mergers than he cares to remember, Anthony joined BKL in 2011. He was promoted to partner in April 2013.
Writer, speaker and webinar presenter on tax
Anthony spent two years in the tax training department of PwC.
He has since lectured widely on all aspects of tax, both in the UK and abroad. His articles have been published in Tax Journal. Along with BKL tax colleague Andrew Levene, he is a member of Tax Journal’s “Ask an Expert” panel.
He now forms a formidable double act with David Whiscombe, presenting seminars and webinars on a range of topical tax issues.
Adventurous traveller and die-hard Manchester City fan
Outside the office, Anthony endures the trials and tribulations of everything that being a Manchester City fan throws at you.
In his twenties, he backpacked around the world for six months. Today, he can still be found dragging his young family to obscure destinations, ideally where Manchester City is playing.
“Just in one year’s worth of expenditure, BKL increased our R&D claim by £322k to £672k. Since then, we have worked with many members of the team on various taxation and commercial matters, often to tight deadlines, and would be very happy to recommend their services to other organisations looking for tax expertise.”
