He responds to complex issues with incisive thinking, clear explanations and practical solutions that draw on his all-round understanding.

Sam’s specialisms include:

  • The taxation of cryptocurrency and NFT transactions for corporates and individuals
  • Wealth structuring and tax-efficient methods of preserving and passing on family wealth, including family investment companies (FICs)
  • Corporate reconstructions including mergers and demergers
  • Buying and selling businesses (M&A), including structuring advice and tax due diligence

Sam joined BKL’s Assurance team as an ACA trainee in 2015, moving to the tax consultancy team in 2019 after completing his CTA qualification. He takes a keen interest in colleagues’ development across the firm, sharing his knowledge through BKL’s internal tax training. He is also a member of BKL’s impact forum Mosaic.

Sam works with CryptoUK’s tax group and sits on CIOT’s cryptoasset working group. He regularly writes articles on a range of different tax topics for both BKL and third-party publications.

Recognised within the industry for his leading expertise, Sam won Taxation’s Rising Star in the Tolley’s Taxation Awards 2022, was named in the Accountancy Age 35 Under 35 for 2022 and was a finalist for Breakout Star of the Year at the Accounting Excellence Awards 2023.

Ambler, cyclist and climber

Sam has moved from London to Newcastle, taking advantage of BKL’s flexible working arrangements. When up north, Sam spends his weekends exploring the National Parks and evenings wandering down the Tyne. When down south, Sam makes the most of the City’s bars and restaurants for catching up with clients, colleagues and friends.
