Audit & Accounts Senior

Due to the growth of our Cambridge office, we are currently recruiting for an Audit & Accounts Senior to join our team of experts.

Your opportunity

This role will contribute to the provision of audit, year-end accounting and taxation compliance to a wide range of clients, working within a team of trainees, qualified staff and partners. You will be motivating and providing on the job training for junior team members.

The client base you will be working on is challenging and interesting. We work with everyone from freelancers and ultra high net worth individuals and trusts to businesses with a turnover of up to £100 million, and families with wealth well beyond that. Sectors we are strongly represented in are property, farms and family estates, technology and digital businesses and hospitality.

We are committed to developing your wider interpersonal and professional skills. We continue to support your growth through additional professional qualifications like CTA, development programmes, a range of work opportunities and careers guidance.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for candidates who are ACA / ACCA qualified (or equivalent) and have at least three years of experience in Audit & Accounts. You are a clear communicator with strong commercial skills, an inquisitive mind and are able to develop good working relationships with clients. You are IT literate, ideally with experience of paperless audit and tax software systems, such as Caseware and Alphatax.

Our modern Cambridge office in Royston has an inspiring work environment in a rural location. As the office is not accessible by public transport, you must hold a full driving licence and have the use of a car. Parking is available directly outside the office.

If you are interested in this role and are able to make a real difference to our clients and our firm, we’d be delighted to hear from you. To apply for this vacancy, please send a covering letter or email, along with salary expectations and an up-to-date CV for the attention of Meta Versluys to recruitment@bkl.co.uk.

Tax Senior

Your opportunity

You will be completing all aspects of year-end tax returns, accounts and P11Ds. To accomplish this, you will be communicating with clients and HMRC and advising clients of measures they can take to reduce their Tax liability. You will be reviewing and supervising the work of Trainees / Assistants.

What we’re looking for

You will be ATT qualified and willing to continue with gaining your CTA qualification. You have strong technical experience and are able to provide guidance to more junior tax team members.

If you are interested in this role and are able to make a real difference to our team, our clients and our firm, we’d be delighted to hear from you. To apply for this vacancy, please send a covering letter or email, along with salary expectations and an up-to-date CV for the attention of Meta Versluys to recruitment@bkl.co.uk.

Payroll Senior

Your opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Senior to join our busy Payroll team in the Outsourcing department to provide a full range of payroll services to our clients. You will be working with a variety of businesses across a range of sectors and will receive managerial support to increase your responsibilities.

You will have your own client portfolio and will be providing a full range of payroll duties, including annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly payrolls. This includes the processing of starters and leavers, preparing payroll to be paid by BACS, issuing payslips and payroll summaries and opening and closing PAYE schemes. You will process Real Time Information (RTI) submissions to HMRC as required and process end of year RTI submissions and the issuing of P60s. You will have demonstrable experience with auto enrolment.

We are committed to developing your wider interpersonal and professional skills. We continue to support your growth through development programmes, gaining a professional qualification if desired and careers guidance.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone who is tech savvy, bright and able to balance independent and collaborative work. You will have experience as a Payroll Senior or equivalent, preferably in an accountancy firm. Experience with Star Payroll Professional is highly desirable.

You are able to develop good working relationships with colleagues and clients – underpinned by confidence and tactfulness. You are a clear communicator with an inquisitive mind and have an adaptable approach.

If you are interested in this role and ready to make a real difference to our team, our clients and our firm, we’d be delighted to hear from you. Rethinking accountancy: bright trainees required

In a profession where numbers matter more than people, we put our people first. By doing so, we help our business to succeed, our clients to flourish and our communities to thrive. We work together to make a difference. Here’s your opportunity to do the same.

The opportunity

We’re excited to announce that we’re now accepting applications for our trainee intake in February 2019, both in our Cambridge and London offices.

In our London office, we have opportunities for AAT training followed by either ACA/CTA or ACCA depending on your specialisation, and for ACA training whereby you will study the CTA joint programme.

(We’ve used quite a few abbreviations there. AAT is the Association of Accounting Technicians; ACA is Associate Chartered Accountant; CTA is Chartered Tax Adviser; ACCA is the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.)

All training will be provided on an apprenticeship scheme.

Whether you join us from school or from university, we will train you and support you. Whatever subjects you’ve studied, being bright, professional, and a clear communicator is what matters to us.

We like willingness to be challenged, to be inspired and to collaborate. We also value energy and determination.

Official training

We’ll provide structured development on audit, outsourcing, accounts and tax, IT training delivered by our own experts and the best external practitioners. We work closely with Kaplan, whose apprenticeship training encompasses leading online learning technologies, award-winning study materials and highly experienced tutors.

You’ll develop your wider interpersonal and professional skills, again with internal and external providers. After you’ve qualified, we’ll continue to support your growth through additional professional qualifications, new development programmes, a range of work opportunities and careers guidance.

What we look for

You will be expected to develop and deliver technical excellence, which means you’ll need the qualities that this will demand: qualities that set you apart from your peers. You need to be able to study and to advance your thinking. We’re open to how you demonstrate this. Traditionally it’s done through academic results, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Feel free to surprise us!

What we offer

Our trainees will enjoy:

  • Paid study support and development opportunities
  • Private medical cover
  • Season ticket loans
  • Holiday entitlement that increases the longer you work with us
  • A full, varied social calendar and wellbeing programme
  • Voluntary work with our sponsored causes

The application and selection process

If you’re interested in building your professional career at BKL and making a difference to our team, our clients and our firm, we’d be delighted to hear from you. Please send a covering letter/email and an up-to-date CV for the attention of Meta Versluys to brightfuture@bkl.co.uk and indicate which part of our training programme you’re applying for (AAT or ACA/CTA).

Aptitude and psychometric testing will be part of our selection process. The in-house selection days will be 15, 16 and 17 January 2019. The start date of our intake will be 11 February 2019.
