BKL is a rapidly expanding and ambitious firm of accountants and business advisers, where we embrace a culture of high challenge and high support.

High challenge because we succeed in a competitive marketplace, with a consistent record of winning high quality and varied work. This provides regular challenge and rapid career development for our people.

High support because we care deeply about our people. We emphasise training, mentoring and personal development within a friendly, fun environment.

Our three year strategy is to continue to grow whilst enhancing our focus on quality and maintaining our strong reputation for client care – employing the right people, doing the right work in the right way. In order to achieve this, we have identified personal tax/HNWI as a key development area. We envisage a personal tax compliance team which continues to challenge team members striving for strong performance but which is also welcoming, collaborative and inspiring.

You will be reviewing and supervising team members’ work providing timely, consistent and constructive feedback on an informal basis. You will assist in the recruitment & selection, management and training of team members. You will liaise with the Director of Personal Tax Compliance regarding the performance of the team. You will be responsible for raising bills on your portfolio and will be developing good working relationships with clients and team members.

What we’re looking for

You will be ATT and CTA qualified and have strong technical experience. You have experience managing others and the workload of a small tax team and are capable of designing internal processes and guiding others in the execution of the processes.

Rethinking accountancy: bright trainees required

The opportunity

We are excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for our trainee intake in August 2018, both in our Cambridge and London offices.

In our London office we have opportunities for the training of Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) followed by either ACA/CTA or ACCA depending on your specialisation, the training of Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) followed by Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) and the training of Associate Chartered Accountants (ACA) whereby you will study the CTA joint programme.

All training will be provided on an apprenticeship scheme.

It does not matter whether you join us from school or from university: we will train you. Neither is the subject of your studies important; what matters to us is that you are bright, professional, and a clear communicator.

We like strength of mind, interest in the world, integrity, positivity and a willingness to collaborate. Energy and determination also form a strong part of what we look for. We want to deliver technical brilliance and expect you to have the ability to develop this.

Official training

We’ll provide structured development on audit, outsourcing, accounts and tax, IT training delivered by our own experts and the best external practitioners. We work closely with Kaplan, whose apprenticeship training encompasses leading online learning technologies, award-winning study materials and highly experienced tutors.

You’ll develop your wider interpersonal and professional skills again with internal and external providers. After you’ve qualified, we’ll continue to support your growth through additional professional qualifications, new development programmes, a range of work opportunities and careers guidance.

What we look for

You will be expected to develop and deliver technical excellence, which means you’ll need the qualities that this will demand: qualities that set you apart from your peers. You need to be able to study and develop your thinking. We are open to how you demonstrate this. Traditionally it’s done through academic results, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Feel free to surprise us!

What we offer

Our trainees will enjoy:

  • Paid study support and development opportunities
  • Private medical cover
  • Season ticket loans
  • Rising holiday entitlement with length of service
  • A full, regular and varied social calendar
  • Voluntary work with our sponsored causes

The application and selection process

If you are interested in building your professional career at BKL and can make a real difference to our team, our clients and our firm, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
