…and choose BKL. After all, even with our enlightened approach to a work-life balance you probably spend at least as much time with your work colleagues as with your spouse, civil partner or Significant Other. So your work relationships need to be chosen with as much care as your personal ones. Why not make a date with us? We are looking for people to join an elite team of tax consultants, partly to cope with growth (we’ve more than doubled our turnover in the past five years) and partly to deal with succession issues (most of our team are – shall we say “very experienced”?).
You’ll be working in a technical support role, sometimes dealing with knotty problems referred internally by partners and managers at BKL; sometimes doing the same thing for the dozens of accounting firms that refer tax consultancy work to us; sometimes dealing directly with clients. You will in turn be supported by colleagues in a strongly collegiate environment where consultants are encouraged both to develop their own specialist expertise and to share it with others. If you have the skills and aptitude we would encourage you to contribute to internal training and to drafting technical briefings and marketing collateral, but this is not a core requirement.
You will be based mainly at our Finchley office though we can accommodate a degree of remote working if necessary.
What sort of person are we looking for? Knowledgeable and experienced in the taxes affecting privately-owned businesses (including property businesses) and their owners, obviously. You’ll be confident in your own abilities but not over-confident – you will know what you don’t know and what you have to look up. You will be a clear and confident communicator both orally and in writing. You will probably be one or more of ACA/FCA, ATII/FTII and HMRC-trained Inspector; but your skills are more important than your qualifications.
You will of course be fascinated, enthused and occasionally driven to despair by the law and practice of taxation and committed both to keeping your existing knowledge up to date and to expanding it. It goes without saying that, like anyone making a career in taxation, you will have a sense of humour and a sense of perspective.
In return, we offer interesting and challenging work, a competitive package and what we genuinely hope is an attractive and supportive working environment – see pure unvarnished reviews at www.glassdoor.co.uk.
