HR expert who develops people and resolves difficult employee issues
Marjorie assists clients through the entire life cycle of employment – from recruitment and selection, preparation of contracts of employment and handbooks, performance management, training and coaching, mediation, handling disciplinary and grievance investigations, hearings and appeals, up to and including termination of employment including redundancy counselling and handling.
Marjorie and her team can provide as much or as little assistance as required, from a single project, such as drafting a contract of employment or handbook, chairing a disciplinary hearing or mediating a workplace dispute, up to providing a fully outsourced Human Resources department.
They also provide a free HR review of systems and employment documents against legal requirements and best practice HR.

Marjorie works with a wide range of clients from small family businesses to large international companies.
She helps them with HR compliance, employee relations, management training and development and dispute resolution. She has:
- Successfully mediated an alleged sexual harassment case for a well-known football club
- Conducted in-depth interviews with over 30 staff members of a hospice, helping them through a stressful period of change and retaining all their people
- Presented several seminars on motivation through a Russian interpreter for delegates in the oil, gas and banking industries from Russia and Kazakhstan
- Conducted assessment days and recruited 17 members of staff for a growing property business
- Lectured at a London University where over half the students on her module, Employee Counselling, Support and Welfare, gained distinctions
Marjorie is on the Resolve UK Mediation and the Intermediation Panels.
Specialist in mediation and dispute resolution
Marjorie graduated from Glasgow University with an MA in Arts/Social Science.
She is an accredited commercial CEDR mediator (Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution) and workplace mediator (ONC, Hertfordshire University).
She is also a Chartered FCIPD (Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) and holds a FAETC (Further Education Teaching Certificate).
Marjorie has been a partner at BKL since 2006.
Conference speaker and author
Marjorie writes HR articles for journals, such as Business Insight and The Chamber of Commerce Newsletter.
She contributed the HR chapter in Legal Risk Management, Governance and Compliance in conjunction with Thushara Polpitiye (published by Globe Law and Business). The book is described as “a must-have desk reference for in-house corporate counsel and compliance officers”.
Marjorie also speaks regularly at conferences and meetings. In 2013, she gave the Tribunal and Employment Law update for the FADR panel and an after dinner speech for the ACCA on the Olympic Legacy.
Olympic torch bearer, marathon runner and youth business mentor
Marjorie is a board member at Woodhouse College Careers Academy where she mentors students, gives Guru lectures and runs training sessions.
For many years, she and the BKL team have supported the work of the Barnet Education Business Partnership which links business to education.
Marjorie is an enthusiastic supporter of Young Enterprise, an education charity. She has organised competition events at the BKL offices and regularly acts as a judge on the companies programme.
Marjorie carried the Olympic Torch in July 2012, having been nominated by her son, in recognition of her extensive voluntary, community and charity work. The flame was passed to her by Gordon Banks (England’s goalkeeper at the 1966 World Cup final) outside Wembley Stadium.
