HSE don’t ban this, that and the other. Apparently.
It appears that those sensitive souls at the Elf and Safety Executive have been cut to the quick by cruel jibes about their alleged responsibility for banning ‘this, that and the other’. Our heart bleeds for them.
They claim that reports that they have outlawed things as diverse as flip flops, knitting in hospitals, school sports days and cuddly toys attached to dustbin vans are all a wicked calumny. They have launched a campaign to set the record straight, protesting that in truth they have banned very little outright and have simply stressed that sensible risk assessment principles should be followed.
Whether such propaganda is (a) true or (b) a reasonable use of public money in these times of straitened circumstances we leave others to judge: meanwhile the ESE might profitably consider whether - regardless of what they might or might not have taken direct action on – they are in any measure responsible for the nanny state and the “compensation culture” which so pervades this once-great nation of ours…
