Charity accountancy services
We offer a comprehensive range of services to charities and not for profit organisations.
Our services not only draw on our expertise and knowledge as auditors and advisers. Our team is led by partners who play an active role in charity and have practical experience of the pressures and difficulties the sector faces. Our services include:
Audit and accountancy
The statutory regime under which charities operate is increasingly complex and requires in-depth knowledge of regulations including the Companies Act 2006, the Charities Act 2006 and Statements of Recommended Practice.
Our experienced team of partner-led auditors will guide charities through the regulations and advise them on practical ways to ensure compliance.
Taxation
Contrary to popular belief, charities cannot simply ignore tax as irrelevant! Click here to see our outline guidance note on some of the issues which may need to be considered; BKL Tax, our tax consultancy arm can advise further including how best to maximise Gift Aid recoveries and to minimise the impact of taxes including capital gains tax and VAT on your activities. One example of the unexpected ways in which tax can affect charities is the reverse charge regime applying to purchase of services from abroad: further details here.
Human resources
Charities with permanent staff face exactly the same issues as employers in the commercial sector. They also have an important relationship with their volunteer staff, which is overlooked from the legislative point of view.
Our BKL Human Resources team will guide charities through any employment issues that may arise and help to stop them becoming a problem.
Information technology
Charities face similar information technology issues as commercial organisations as well as those specific to the sector, such as the need for flexible databases to access potential donors. Our IT specialists are able to work with charities to develop and put in place IT strategy and systems tailored to their needs.
Risk management and strategy
Increasingly, trustees must consider risk management and strategy as part of the governance of their charity. We are experienced in advising charities on strategy and in providing support on risk management issues.
